Ritsumeikan University's Visit

On August 23rd 2024, the Delegation of Japan to ICAO received a visit by twelve students and two professors from Ritsumeikan University, whom we hosted with briefing sessions, followed by a tour inside of ICAO.
 
  1. The first part of the briefing session focused on ICAO and the Delegation of Japan. Mr. Takanori Amikura, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, started off by providing the overview and the history of ICAO, as well as the Government of Japan’s policy towards it. Then, Ms. Yui Kurokawa, Technical Expert, presented her professional role as a member of the Delegation, including her experience as an international student in Canada. Lastly, Mr. Hiroki Tokunaga, First Secretary, explained the history and the activities of the Air Navigation Commission (ANC), in which he currently works as the Commissioner.【Image1】
 
  1. The second part of the session featured the Japanese officials working at ICAO. First, Mr. Natsuki Kojima, Associate Air Transport Officer, explained the areas of his responsibility (aviation agreements) and his experience of studying abroad. Mr. Jun Ryuzaki, Technical Officer Meteorology, then briefed on meteorological service for international air navigation and his experience in applying to work for ICAO. The two presenters also shared what feels rewarding and fulfilling in their job at an international organization and their experiences of living in Canada.【Image 2】

After the briefing sessions, the group had a tour inside of ICAO; visiting the Assembly Hall, the Council and the ANC Chambers.【Image 3】During the course of their visit, the group had the privilege of an impromptu meeting with Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of ICAO, who kindly welcomed them.
 
  1. The visit also involved opportunities for an active exchange of views from students and professors, whom contributed with various questions. After the visit, we received positive feedbacks from the students, such as that the visit to the Delegation and to ICAO was highly inspiring and that it formed an invaluable experience to broaden their views.
