Informal briefing session by JCAB for Council - Risks involved in falling objects from aircrafts

An informal Council briefing session was held on 8 June at the ICAO HQ in Montreal, based on the proposal by JCAB (Japan Civil Aviation Bureau) with a view to enhancing ICAO’s awareness of new risks involved in falling objects from aircraft. In this briefing, JCAB gave a presentation regarding its overall efforts for aviation safety as well as its measures against such incidents.
There were high attention and interests shown by the participants including President of the Council, Representatives of member states, Commissioners of Air Navigation Commission and relevant Secretariat staff, by raising many comments and questions on possible cause of such falling, Japan’s system to address those risks, etc.
By leading such interaction at this session, Japan contributed to providing an opportunity to share the global importance of this subject matter and kick off the discussion on possible preventive measures in the ICAO. The President of the Council and many other participants expressed their gratitude to JCAB and the Delegation of Japan for the initiatives.
